Positioned 50 km away from Dar Es Salaam, take a journey to the once bustling Bagamoyo Town which was home to one of East Africa’s biggest trading ports for Ivory and Slave trading, also one of the oldest towns in all of Tanzania.

The name Bagamoyo comes from the Swahili words “bwaga moyo”, meaning “throw down your heart,” an expression by people who were captured as slaves, knowing that they faced an uncertain future.

Depart from Dar es Salaam at 08:00hrs and drive to the historical Bagamoyo town where the day will be spent visiting the Kaole Ruins, Old Fort, Holy Ghost Mission and Caravan Sarai Museum.

Bagamayo was also the last burial place of the internationally renowned explorer David Livingstone before his body was laid to eternally rest in Westminster, London. Alongside Livingstone other prolific explorers which passed through this town include Burton, Speke, Grant, Livingstone and Stanley. Follow in their footsteps with a trip to Bagamoyo.

Lunch will be at a beach resort. After lunch leisure time at the beach before departing by 15:30hrs and returning to Dar es Salaam. Estimated arrival time is at 18:00hrs, making for the perfect day trip while in Dar Es Salaam.
