THE SOUTH – digital safari itinerary Mikumi was gazetted as a National Park in 1964 and is named after the spindle-shaped Borassus palm trees. The Mkata plain supports vast herds of plains game such as wildebeest, impala, zebra, and giraffe, hunted by their associated predators; while you are more likely to find Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, greater kudu, roan, and sable antelope in the surrounding, less fertile hills. Although game sightings can never be guaranteed, there are lots of sightings of the African ‘wild dog’ hunting the plains in packs. DAY 5  – Full day game drive in Mikumi. Breakfast and dinner at the camp, and picnic lunch in the park. DAY 6 –  Breakfast and drive to Ruaha National Park. You will have a stop in Iringa town for Neema Crafts center visit and lunch. Arrival at the lodge, leisure, and dinner

THE SOUTH – digital safari itinerary Ruaha National Park has a huge diversity of species, boasting both the Greater and Lesser Kudu; the striped and spotted hyena as well as Roan and Sable antelope. The lion population is now so large that they have gained film rights for their prowess at hunting Giraffe, which is not their traditional fare. The park’s rugged rocky outcrops are home to a healthy population of leopards and we are privileged to see Hunting Dogs as well as cheetah, jackals, bat-eared foxes, genet and civet. Many elephant herds are seen throughout the Park and over 530 recorded bird species, more during the green season with visiting migrant species. Ruaha was recently expanded by incorporating adjacent wildlife reserves to become the largest National Park in Tanzania. Ruaha lies in the convergence zone where northern and southern hemisphere birds and mammal species overlap. This results in an overwhelming number of birds (530 recorded), plants (1400), and a correspondingly large number of mammal species. DAY 7 – Morning and afternoon game drive in the park. Breakfast and dinner at the lodge and picnic lunch in the park. DAY 8 – Morning walking safari and breakfast. Afternoon game drive. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the lodge DAY 9 – Breakfast, morning game drive on the way to the airstrip for your onward flight to Zanzibar, Pemba or Mafia Island
